This is one of those books that needs to be in every sewists library! With an extensive section on fitting bodies (that we can all relate to!), step by step illustrated construction techniques, and easy to follow directions, this book is such a great tool to solve your fitting issues and master your fit. I personally love the section on sewing an expandable waistband! This technique is perfect for Ponte knit or stretch woven pants that fit amazingly well and are so comfortable. There’s no need to sacrifice comfort for fit, you can have both! As a sewing instructor this is a must have for me personally and in my pant workshop. Students find it an invaluable wealth of information. In the studio you will see this book everywhere. Regardless of the style of pant, it will never be out of date.

My true rating is ten stars! As a sewist, this book is empowering, as a sewing teacher, indispensable. Pati Palmer’s clear, concise instructions paired with Marta Alto’s brilliant and time-saving sewing techniques equals solid gold. Wearing a pair of perfectly-fitting pants made with your own hands is such a joy. Learn to Tissue-Fit then fit as you sew and not only skip the muslin but know at each step that your pants will fit when finished. Every imaginable fit challenge, pocket style, waistband treatment, and hem treatment is illustrated and explained on these pages. My personal copy of this book is dog-eared and loved from use. As an added bonus, it’s a fun read: full of humor and real life.

Pants For Real People is the definitive book on everything pants! As an instructor, this book has been an invaluable tool to help my customers fit and sew pants. As a pattern designer with a popular pants pattern (#113 Pants…Perfected pamelaspatterns.com), I use this book as a companion guide for my pattern. A pattern can only have so much information in a guide sheet – this book fills in all the gaps plus more. Fitting is the major concern when making pants, and the majority of this book is devoted to just that subject There is not another pant book available today that can compare to Pants For Real People.

“Pants for Real People” is a must have to achieve an excellent fitting pant! I have used this book for myself as well as for pant making classes I have taught. What I love most about the book is that the diagrams are easy to understand and the explanations for pattern alterations and sewing steps are very clear. When the book is paired with a Palmer/Pletsch pattern, the adjustments are even easier because the alteration lines and suggested seam allowances are already drafted into the pattern. I also appreciate the section of fit solutions with real people in their fabric pin fitting. It helps to see fit challenges and solutions in both the tissue fitting and the fabric pin fitting. Lastly, I love the variations and design modifications explained in the book so sewers can create the pants they desire regardless of the pattern they have purchased. Beginner to advanced sewers can quickly be empowered to achieve success!
