Description

This class will help you master fitting and sewing any pant.

Learn to fit any style pant and to sew up all those details. The first day we will give you a comprehensive presentation of The Palmer/Pletsch Tissue-Fitting Method. We will show you pant styles from our wardrobe. Then we will take you shopping to show you the easiest to fit pant fabrics that have good fit and sew qualities.

We will measure your hip and determine your size. We will fit you in tissue and then show you how to alter it for your figure. You will then cut it out in fabric. We will demonstrate the invisible zipper and show you how to pin the pants together for fabric-fitting to tweak the fit on both sides of your body. You will sew the pant, learning a non-roll waistband or elastic band, how to finish seams, and a professional hem.

Now you can choose to fit a different style pant such as one with a fly front, trouser pockets, or a no-side seam pant. We will share with you how similar all the pattern companies are, not how different they are. If you have full thighs in one or a dropped derriere, you will have it in the others. This will EMPOWER you to sew any pattern design you choose and make it fit.

We include the latest Palmer/Pletsch pant-fit pattern, Butterick B6845.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES

NYC FABRIC SHOPPING TOUR
The day after the workshop, join Pamela Leggett for a guided shopping tour of New York City’s fabric stores throughout the garment district. You will leave for NYC around 7:30 am and return around 9:00 pm. New York City is a fabulous place to visit and shop for fabrics, trims, buttons and so much more!  Pamela will be your guide for the day to explore Mood (Project Runway’s store), B & J’s (Pamela’s favorite) and other stores in the Garment District. The $150 tour price includes transportation, the fabric tour, and lunch. Contact Pamela directly for more information and to reserve your spot — pamela@pamelaspatterns.com.

DINNER AND A MOVIE
If enough people are interested, we will order in dinner and watch a fashion-related movie. Pamela has several that you will enjoy (a customer favorite is the independent smash, Men Of The Cloth). There is no charge for this; everyone pays for their own dinner.

TAKE PANT FIT AGAIN!

On your first return visit to the pant workshop you can fit and sew for FOUR straight days. You might want to try our latest no-gap vertical welt pocket. We’ve developed great instructions. It adds time, so we don’t recommend it for your first pant workshop. If you want to learn to fit and sew jeans, we suggest our Jeans That Fit workshops in Connecticut, Portland or Michigan, our new book, Fit & Sew Custom Jeans, and/or get Marta Alto’s Jeans for Real People DVD or streaming video.

And again.

Each time you return to Pant, you’ll build on your fitting and sewing skills, and new challenges in details and/or design will be added. You will love sewing with the experts as they guide you to fitting and sewing beautiful pants. If you teach pant fit, you will see even more body shapes and improve your skill in fitting others. You’ll become a master in pants!
