PANT FIT & SEW 4-DAY WORKSHOP • VANCOUVER
Fit and sew pants using The Palmer/Pletsch Tissue-Fitting Method.
Pants are just two legs and a crotch! Once a pattern is altered to fit, details and creativity are welcomed. Join the fit experts on your journey to pants that fit! Sewing techniques are also demonstrated, including zippers, pockets, and waistbands.
This class will help you master fitting and sewing any pants.
Featuring the Palmer/Pletsch Tissue-Fitting Method
Skip the muslin. Learn to tissue-fit pants. Because you are wearing just one leg, we can see changes that are needed for the crotch shape to fit you. The next fitting is in the fabric cut from your altered tissue. Final tweaking is done in fabric! The right and left sides of your body may differ which is why we use 1” side seam allowances on Palmer/Pletsch pant patterns. Fabrics you sew may also change the fit which is why we use a 1”-wide waist seam allowances. Raise or lower the waistband for the best crotch fit for your fabric.
To make the fitting process as easy and accurate as possible, you will fit and sew a basic pant style first. For your next pair, add the details you want with the help of your instructor. Our book Pants for Real People has excellent step-by-step instructions for nearly every detail you would want to try. Also, see Fit and Sew Custom Jeans for fun pattern hacks for hems, pockets, hiking pants and more.
You will receive a body map for your alterations and a specific tissue-fitting order to keep you on track. There will be sewing demonstrations on zippers, a perfect waistband, other waist finishes, and more.
The Palmer/Pletsch Tissue-Fitting Method of pattern altering is internationally known for its success. Palmer/Pletsch McCall’s and Butterick patterns feature this method tailored to the specific pattern design. We start with a presentation that walks you through pant fit basics, fabrics, and notions, too. You will tissue-fit and alter your pattern, cut from fabric, pin fit, and learn to fit-as-you-sew for the very best results.
These six women all started with a size 16 pattern based on hip measurement. What makes them look different is height and waist size. Taller can have the same hip measurement and look slimmer. It’s a scale thing.
PANT FIT TEACHER TRAINING — $195.00
This session will be held from 9:00am to 5:00pm the day after the workshop. Lunch will be provided.
Whether or not you aspire to teach, an additional day of pant fitting practice the day after the workshop will boost your confidence. Why not? You are already here! You will fit each other with the instructor only jumping in to help when necessary. We want you to think for yourself and be empowered before you go home.
You will receive scripted slide programs which, if not planning to teach, you will learn from by reading. For those wanting to teach, you will also receive print-ready handouts for your classes, a variety of slide presentations in PowerPoint (which allows you to rearrange slides for any length presentation), class format ideas, sample promotional flyers and marketing materials. The value of the presentations and images alone is well over $1,000.
This session allows you to order the Palmer/Pletsch basic fit patterns at a reduced price for use in your classes. This session also allows you to apply to become a Palmer/Pletsch CSI.
FIT PRACTICE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO ACCOMPLISH. WE WILL TALK ABOUT BUSINESS DURING THE INCLUDED LUNCH
Take fit again.
On your first return visit to the pant workshop you can fit and sew for FOUR straight days. You might want to try our latest no-gap vertical welt pocket. We’ve developed great instructions. It adds time, so we don’t recommend it for your first pant workshop. If you want to learn to fit and sew jeans, we suggest our Jeans That Fit 5-day workshops in Portland, and/or get Marta Alto’s Jeans for Real People DVD or streaming video.
And again, and again…
Each time you return to Pant, you’ll build on your fitting and sewing skills, and new challenges in details and/or design will be added. You will love sewing with the experts as they guide you to fitting and sewing beautiful pants. If you teach pant fit, you will see even more body shapes and improve your skill in fitting others. You’ll become a master in pants!
This workshop is held at Sew-Op + Maker Space in Vancouver, WA, across the Columbia River from Portland, OR.
