Description

The Learn to Sew program was developed by Janet Corzatt as a series of four levels of sewing instruction geared toward the beginner, covering all the basics to help you start sewing on your own, with a sewing project for each level. In this Level One class you’ll learn how to sew an apron.

Two 3.5 hour sessions—$150

an apron made in the Learn to Sew an Apron class

This single garment is packed with the most frequently used sewing techniques that every stitcher needs to build skills and become an independent maker.

Using the Palmer/Pletsch Learn to Sew Level 1 pattern and your imagination, you will create a fabulous apron, make technique samples to refer to later, and take away these skills:

• Using a pattern
• Layout and cutting
• Transferring pattern markings to fabric
• Technique samples: stay stitching, clean finish, clipping and notching, grading and under stitching
• Facings, patch pockets and grommets
• Sewing ties and loop for ring
• Machine hemming

Classes are limited to five, so you’ll get plenty of individual attention.

Apron pattern is provided. Use our sewing machines or bring your own. Click on the red button below for a class supply list.

Prerequisite: Sewing Machine Basics (Gift Bags) class or equivalent. Find these classes here.

This class is held at Sew-Op + Maker Space in Vancouver, WA, across the Columbia River from Portland, OR.

For Portlanders who don’t often cross the river, it’s easy. Traveling north on I-5, take Mill Plain exit toward Port of Vancouver, stay in the left lane. (The far left lane is not Mill Plain.) Turn left at light and move to the right lane. You are now on 15th Street. Turn right on Broadway. Sew-Op is in the green building on right—the first building you come to.

There is 2-hour free street parking in front of Sew-Op and extended parking four blocks east. For closer parking download the convenient Parking Kitty app. Use this City of Vancouver Parking Map to find more parking locations.
