This class will help you master fitting and sewing any pattern in any knit.
Sewing with knit fabrics today is quick, easy, and very fashionable! From casual to formal wear, knit fabrics rule, but all the old “rules” don’t. Take all the best ideas from ready-to-wear to couture sewing and incorporate these techniques into your knitwear. We’ve taken the mystery out of fitting a pattern for any type of knit fabric. Every garment from the T-shirt to the draped dress should fit and suit your individual body and style. After an introductory comprehensive presentation on knit fabric types, fitting knits, and knit sewing tips, we will show you knit garments, then take you shopping to see a large variety of knit fabrics
We start with a simple top to make sure everyone understands how to fit themselves. Then, from the simple fitted top, learn how to make creative garments with design changes. We encourage you to try a variety of styles in knits such as dresses, cardigans, tops with cowl and many other neckline finishes, jackets and the no-side seam pant. Sewing advice will be given as needed.
Pati and Sue Neall (Palmer/Pletsch Australia) have also written a book on sewing knits, Knits for Real People. Pati Palmer, Marta Alto, Sue Neall and our other teachers have been experimenting with fitting knits since the 1970s. Pati has designed and written guide sheets for many of her McCall Pattern designs either for knits only or for both knits and wovens. Pamela Leggett has designed many patterns for knits (www.pamelaspatterns.com). If you have dreamed of spending four days just focusing on knit fashions, then under the guidance of our talented teachers, this workshop is for you.

The following optional events can be scheduled directly with Pamela Leggett:
PRE-WORKSHOP CUSTOM DRESS FORM CLASS
The day before the workshop, join Pamela Leggett to make a custom dress form—the perfect replica of yourself—to aid in your fitting once you get home. The $150 price includes the kit and lunch. Contact Pamela directly for more information and to reserve your spot — pamela
A dress form is a useful tool for fitting and design. The problem is getting one to fit all your curves and “scallops”. In this class, we will use an adjustable form that you will “build and pad” to look just like you! Other than the dress form, the supplies are simple – a bra and undies, batting and fiberfill, and some bandaging from the drug store. We’ll finish the form with a custom cover. With the skills you learn, you will be able to change the dress form as your body changes. You will now be well equipped for your fitting and design challenges!

NYC FABRIC SHOPPING TOUR
The day after the workshop, join Pamela Leggett for a guided shopping tour of New York City’s fabric stores throughout the garment district. You will leave for NYC around 7:30 am and return around 9:00 pm. New York City is a fabulous place to visit and shop for fabrics, trims, buttons and so much more! Pamela will be your guide for the day to explore Mood (Project Runway’s store), B & J’s (Pamela’s favorite) and other stores in the Garment District. The $150 tour price includes transportation, the fabric tour, and lunch. Contact Pamela directly for more information and to reserve your spot — pamela
DINNER AND A MOVIE
If enough people are interested, we will order in dinner and watch a fashion-related movie. Pamela has several that you will enjoy (a customer favorite is the independent smash, Men Of The Cloth). There is no charge for this; everyone pays for their own dinner.

The Book You’ll Want to Have—Knits for Real People
