Description
This class will help you master tailoring a jacket.
Prerequisite: The 2-day Fashion Fitting the Upper Body or 4-day Fit Sewing Patterns workshop, or schedule a private session with Janet prior to the tailoring workshop to prepare your jacket pattern altered to fit you. Her contact information can be found on the Bring List.
Tailor any jacket style. You will learn cutting and marking accuracy, interfacings and proper fusing, fit, shoulder and chest shaping, shaped darts, careful trimming and quality pressing, sleeve heads, bound buttonholes, patch and welt pockets, linings, and perfect hems. Truly, all of your sewing will improve after you learn to tailor. You will select a good fabric and a pattern based on your skills. If you have never sewn a jacket, choose one with fewer details to sew. More advanced techniques will be demonstrated, but you need not make samples or use them in your jacket until you come again.

Our Palmer/Pletsch Michigan workshops are held in Richland, Michigan, near Kalamazoo.

TAILORING TEACHER TRAINING
Only Available to Those Who Have Registered for a Tailoring Workshop.
We do not offer this teacher training in-person, as we do for fit and pant. When you sign up for the Tailoring Workshop, you can also opt to purchase the teacher training files. You will receive the link to download them before the workshop and you should open and review the files prior to the workshop. Then, during the workshop, you can ask questions of your instructor. The teacher training files include: outlines for teaching, slides in PowerPoint with scripts for teaching 1-3 hour seminars or to use throughout hands-on classes, camera-ready handouts, Palmer/Pletsch wholesale ordering information, special price ordering info on Pati Palmer’s Butterick patterns, and tools and suggestions for teaching.

TAKE TAILORING AGAIN!
Since it is difficult to accomplish ALL details in one workshop, we hope you’ll return so you can master and expand your tailoring skills. Returnees may add new challenges or try new fabrics. If you didn’t do welt pockets or a notched collar the first time, do it now.
And again.
If you want to become a MASTER tailor or because you teach or sew for others, come back as often as you like. You will try new techniques, and challenging fabrics, and continue to perfect your skills. You can watch fittings, and fit yourself, in new jacket styles.
