Teacher training comes in several formats depending on the topic. It is designed to give you the professional tools and confidence to begin teaching the subject you were trained in. You will also be able to benefit by using the Palmer/Pletsch name and reputation to help build your classes and network with hundreds of Palmer/Pletsch instructors worldwide. Plus, it will qualify you to apply to be a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor. It is advisable to read the book The Business of Teaching Sewing before you arrive in Portland so you will be able to ask questions about anything you need more information on. The book was written based on over 40 years of teaching all kinds of classes including traveling seminars.

FIT—One-Day

Spend the day fitting others in the basic fit shells as well as a variety of fashions so that you will be confident when you are on your own at home. Pati Palmer will be there observing, helping, and to answer questions if you get stuck. You will also receive a CD with camera-ready handouts for your classes, slides and a script for teaching Fit, a variety of slide presentations in Power Point which allows you to rearrange slides for any length presentation, class format ideas, sample promotional flyers and marketing materials. You will be able to order the McCall’s Palmer/Pletsch basic fit patterns for your classes at a reduced price for use in your classes. $195

PANT FIT AND SEWING—One-Day

Spend the day fitting others in a variety of styles of pants so that you will be confident when you are on your own at home. Pati Palmer will be there observing, helping, and to answer questions if you get stuck. You will also receive a CD with camera-ready handouts for your classes, slides and a script for teaching Fit, a variety of slide presentations in Power Point which allows you to rearrange slides for any length presentation, class format ideas, sample promotional flyers and marketing materials. You will also be able to order the Palmer/Pletsch McCall’s basic pant fit pattern at a reduced price for use in your classes. $195

JACKETS—One-Day

This one-day teacher training includes an image make-over session and a professional photo of yourself on a CD to use in marketing your classes—on flyers, for press releases, for business cards, and on posters.

Ethel Harms will do your hair and makeup. We will dress and/or accessorize you if necessary. We spend the day at Pati Palmer’s home where she has her photo studio.

In addition, you will practice using the slides that will come on a CD for you to use to teach a jacket seminar. The CD also includes marketing materials and the slides in Power Point so you can reorganize them to accommodate any length class.  If time permits, we will also practice fitting a jacket on others as a fit review. $195

BEGINNING SEWING—takes place during the workshop. 

 Janet will lead lunch discussions about how to get started, where to teach, prices to charge, class formats and lengths. You become the beginning student and observe how Janet teaches the beginning sewing levels. You will see why she has waiting lists to get into her classes.  You will receive a CD with ready-to-print pages for your students’ notebooks for each level of the beginning sewing classes. It also includes marketing materials.  No extra charge. FREE with workshop.

Once you have successfully completed one workshop and the corresponding teacher training, you may apply to become a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor (C.S.I.). Once certified, you are authorized to promote yourself as a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor and we will promote you nationally as a teacher certified in the Palmer/Pletsch System of Sewing.™ 

The certification fee is $39 annually. You are eligible to apply after completing your first workshop. To remain certified, you will need to earn points (PDUs or Professional Development Units). We will give you a list of the things you can do to earn PDUs, all of which will help you improve your business. This program is designed as a continuing education program so you can constantly better yourself and your skills. 

BONUS: To encourage excellence, certified instructors may repeat teacher training at no charge when they sign up for a repeat workshop.
