WORKSHOP LOCATION

The workshops are held in our spacious classroom in a wing of the Fabric Depot, a wonderful fabric store in southeast Portland, close to hotels and the airport. The Fabric Depot has a huge selection of fashion, quilting, and home decorating fabrics. For "shopping convenience" you may run a tab, which means no waiting in lines for purchases, and they will ship what you purchases home. (Some workshop attendees even ship their laundry and pack their fabrics!)

WHAT'S INCLUDED

The hotel provides transportation to and from the workshop each day. In the classroom we offer coffee, water, and snacks, and, at midday, a wonderful lunch. A special graduation ceremony and dinner will be held at the completion of each workshop. Other dinners are on your own. 

Notebooks and most sample-making supplies are included. We have some Viking/Husqvarna machines to loan if you cannot bring your own. 

Bring List
After you register we’ll send a list of what you need to bring. If you have the Palmer/Pletsch book that is being used as a reference for the class, bring it. We have found that most people have the books, so we are no longer including them. (It is a way to keep our prices the same as they have been.) We recommend the spiral versions. Fabric Depot does carry them

GRADUATION
Graduation is marked by a lovely dinner.  It’s a time to socialize in a relaxed atmosphere and share the whys of your sewing, your personal interests and your aspirations. In a final ceremony, completion certificates will be awarded during this special graduation night.

Your graduation certificate will say Tailoring I, Tailoring II, Tailoring III, Couture I, Couture II, Couture III, etc., depending on the number of times you have attended.

Pati Palmer says: "The Monarch Hotel offers great value to Palmer/Pletsch students. Chris Howland, the Sales Manager, will make sure your stay is pleasant and your needs are met. If this hotel were in the city center, it would cost $200 a night. Through 2007 your rate is 50% off the hotel's regular single/double room rate of $159.00. The rates will be slightly higher in 2008 - only $85 for single/double rooms, $95 for a triple, $105 for a quad, and $169 for suites. Plus, Clackamas County tax is only 7% compared to Multnomah County (downtown Portland) at 12.5%. For your special rate, call the hotel at 1-800-492-8700 and tell them you are with Palmer/Pletsch. These rates are not available through the Monarch website.

The hotel has a restaurant, gift shop, and a shuttle bus that will ferry you to and from the airport and the classroom at the Fabric Depot as well as to nearby malls for no extra charge. It is across the street from one of our best shopping malls in our area with a Nordstrom's and a Macy's and is also near a huge discount mall. The hotel will also give you one 10% discount coupon per day toward dinner at their restaurant. All rooms now have new Serta Pillow Top beds and upgraded linens. You can get a pass for the local athletic club that is nearby. AND, our color analyst, and image/makeup artist Ethel Harms will pick you up at the hotel for an evening of fun in her studio in Lake Oswego. Contact Ethel directly to have your colors or makeup done. (Learn more..)

You can go to the hotel's web site to see the ammenities  (http://www.monarchhotel.cc/.) , but you can't make reservations on the site and get the special rate. Remember, for your special rate, you must call the hotel at 1-800-492-8700 and tell them you are with Palmer/Pletsch. If you have a roommate, please give them that name as well. We hope you will enjoy your stay and be rested for a fun and information-filled workshop!"

IN SUMMARY:

You will get the special Palmer/Pletsch rates plus 7% hotel tax which includes a 10% off dinner daily at Sam’s Restaurant right in the hotel for each person in a room. To get the special rate you must call or e-mail the hotel directly to request the “Palmer/Pletsch rate,” which is not available by registering online on the hotel website.

v      Airport pickup at baggage claim. Vans say Monarch on the side. Amtrak will be stopping only 3 miles away in Oregon City and the hotel will pick up there also. Call hotel for pick up at 800-492-8700.

v      Room service from 6:00am to 9:00pm . Food is available in the lounge until 2:00am .

v      Coffee pots, regular ironing board, iron, hairdryers, laundry valet and/or self-service facilities, data ports, fax and copy service.

v      Free local calls.

v      Safety deposit boxes at front desk and an ATM on property.

v      Shuttle to Fabric Depot at 8:45 am first day and Sundays; 8:15am other days so you can have some shopping time before class. The return is at 6:00pm except last day at 5:00pm .

v      There are several malls and restaurants within walking distance. If you are taking the Fit Workshop, you might go to Nordstrom and get a bra fitted to you. Check out the Walco brand.

v      Enterprise Rental Car will deliver to the hotel and the rates are better than at the airport due to airport taxes.

v      The hotel includes 192 rooms on 3 floors with elevators, restaurant and lounge and gift shop. The interior rooms face a courtyard and waterfall and are quieter.

v      It also has an outdoor seasonal swimming pool. There is an adjacent 20-mile paved jogging path and guest discount passes to nearby East Side Athletic Club.

Workshop
Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend a scheduled workshop, notify Palmer/Pletsch at least 30 days in advance of the class to receive a refund of your tuition less the non-refundable $100 deposit. For cancellations less than 30 days before a workshop, tuition fees are not refundable. All fees, minus a $100 deposit, will become a credit toward a future workshop, or you may send someone in your place.

Palmer/Pletsch reserves the right to cancel any workshop up to 30 days prior to starting date if minimum enrollment is not metd. All deposits and fees will then be refunded. Please feel free to contact us for further information or clarification. Thank you.
